Item Effects of Utilizing Mobile-Assisted Language Learning through YouTube and TikTok Applications on Enhancing English Communication Skills for Higher Education Students as Generation Z Learners(Graphicsite 295 Nakhon Ratchasima Road, Dusit, Bangkok, Thailand 10300, 2025-04-24) Rattana KlinjuyThis study aimed to (1) examine the perspectives and needs of Generation Z university students regarding the use of mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) through YouTube and TikTok to enhance English communication skills; (2) investigate the effects of MALL via these platforms on students' communication performance; and (3) explore students’ perceptions of MALL integration in their language learning experiences. The participants were 12 third-year undergraduate students enrolled in the English in Early Childhood Classroom course. Research instruments included: (1) a needs and perspectives questionnaire; (2) pre- and post-listening tests and formative speaking assessments; and (3) a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire along with open-ended questions to gather both quantitative and qualitative data on students’ perceptions. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, percentile, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, and content analysis. Findings revealed that students perceived YouTube and TikTok as effective tools for improving pronunciation and listening comprehension, particularly in understanding diverse accents and developing clearer speech. They reported motivation to participate in speaking activities and acquire practical vocabulary for real-life communication. Post-intervention results demonstrated significant improvement in students’ English communication skills. Listening test scores increased from a pre-test mean of 29.1 (SD = 5.75) to a post-test mean of 41.3 (SD = 5.33), with a statistically significant difference at the .002 level. The average speaking proficiency score reached 80.17%, surpassing the 70% benchmark with significance at the .05 level. Students expressed positive perceptions of MALL via YouTube and TikTok, noting the platforms’ engaging nature, ease of access to learning materials, and support for intercultural competence. These findings highlight the potential of integrating popular digital platforms into EFL instruction to foster effective and engaging learning environments for Generation Z learners. The study underscores the importance of leveraging technology to enhance language education in contemporary academic settings.Item English Learning Management of Generation Z Learners with Active Learning(Research and Development Institute Suan Dusit University, 2020) Rattana Klinjuy; R. Klinjuy; Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Suan Dusit University, Lampang Center, Lampang, 52100, Thailand; email: rattana_kli@outlook.comThis article aims to present the guidelines of learning management in an English course that meets the context and satisfies the needs of Generation Z learners with active learning. Active learning is a form of learning by doing. It provides the learners with reading, writing, interacting, and analyzing problems. The learners will be provided with advanced thinking processes such as synthesis, analysis, and evaluation. In this article, the author describes the characteristics and the techniques for learning management, including the benefits of active learning to find the approaches that can be adapted to English teaching and learning. Moreover, the author views active learning as the most suitable teaching method for Generation Z learners. The article shows their learning styles and their needs of learning based on the concept of generational theory for Generation Z learners, linking learning management with active learning. The author, therefore, views that the concept of generational theory enables the instructor to organize an effective active learning process in English to achieve the curriculum learning outcome and also meet the needs of Generation Z learners. © 2020, Research and Development Institute Suan Dusit University. Klinjuy; Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Suan Dusit University, Lampang, Lampang Campus, 52100, Thailand; email: tooky_luckies@hotmail.comThis research aims 1) to explore learners and instructors' opinions on the problems or obstacles towards learning management process with technology integration using iPad and 2) to study the guidelines to improve the learning management process with technology integration using the iPad in the Academic Collaboration Program between the Department of Local Administration and Suan Dusit University Phase 2 (Ror Mor Por 2). A survey questionnaire was distributed with quota sampling method to 574 students from 6 educational centers under Ror Mor Por 2 project: Suan Dusit University, Lampang Center, Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, Suan Dusit University, Trang Center, Songkhla Rajabhat University, Uttaradit Rajabhat University and Maha Sarakham Rajabhat University. An interview was conducted to 30 instructors from the same 6 educational centers under Ror Mor Por 2 project. The results indicate that the problems and obstacles from learners opinions towards learning management process with technology integration using iPad have problems/obstacles at a low level with the highest average of the problem in an aspect of technology facilities. It was suggested that the improvement guidelines should have the staff to take care of the device connected to the Internet before the teaching and learning and should have more WIFI signal boxes inside learning areas. From the instructors interviews, it was found that the instructors understanding regarding the principles of learning management with technology integration in three learning patterns, the collaborative planning among instructors for learning activities, including giving assignments had not been cleared and inconsistent approach. With these problems, most of the instructors suggested that there should have been a meeting of all instructors in order to make the overall plans together resulting in an apparent and consistent approach. In addition, the technology training program should be provided to all instructors so that they are able to use the iPad as well as technology facilities effectively. Another problem was the effectiveness of WIFI signal that is very important for teaching and learning because iPad need to be connected to the Internet via WIFI network but the WIFI signal was sometimes unstable and low. The improvement guideline for this problem is to develop a WIFI system to make it easier for the Internet connection that can support teaching and learning process effectively. 2019, Research and Development Institute Suan Dusit University.
