Item Effect of bagasse and bagasse ash levels on properties of pottery products(Elsevier Ltd, 2018) Sutas Janbuala; Mana Eambua; Arpapan Satayavibul; Watcharakhon Nethan; S. Janbuala; Faculty of Science, Suan Dusit University, Bangkok, 10300, Thailand; email: sutas_jan@dusit.ac.thThe objective of this research was to study the effect of bagasse and bagasse ash on the properties of pottery products. In the experiments, we varied the composition of clay by adding 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% by weight of bagasse or by adding 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by weight of bagasse ash and maintained the temperature of the furnace at 900 C. The results indicate that the best composition is obtained by adding 10% by weight of bagasse ash, which yielded pottery products with improved strength (20.10 MPa), density (1.41 g/cm3), water absorption (13.91%), and porosity (25.73%). In comparison, the composition of clay with 4% by weight of bagasse yielded strength, density, water absorption, and porosity of 10.12 MPa, 1.53 g/cm3, 19.95%, and 30.17%, respectively. 2018 The AuthorsItem Effect of sludge from water treatment plant on properties of pottery(Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2014) Sutas Janbuala; Wittawat Ratanathavorn; Mana Aermbua; Arpapan Satayavibul; Udomsak KitthaweeThis research aims to study the effect of sludge from water treatment plants on the properties of pottery such as density, compressive strength, water absorption, and porosity. The composition of sludge from water treatment plants added to the clay varies, at percentages of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%, controlled by weight. The results showed that the composition of 10% by weight of sludge from the water treatment plant yields the ultimate pottery properties, with 12.63 MPa of compressive strength, 1.85 g/cm3 of density, 14.24% of water absorption, and 26.34% of porosity. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.Item Mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of lightweight clay bricks fabricated with a powdered marble dust additive(Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2018) Sutas Janbuala; Mana Eambua; Arpapan Satayavibul; Watcharakhon Nethan; S. Janbuala; Faculty of Science, Suan Dusit University, Bangkok, Thailand; email: sutas_jan@dusit.ac.thThe objective of this study was to recycle powdered marble dust to improve mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of lightweight clay bricks. Varying amounts of powdered marble dust (10, 20, 30, and 40 vol.%) were added to a lightweight clay brick at the firing temperatures of 900, 1000, and 1100 C. When higher quantities of powdered marble dust were added, the values of porosity and water absorption increased while those of thermal conductivity and bulk density decreased. The decrease in apparent porosity and water absorption were also affected by the increase in firing temperature. The most desirable properties of the clay bricks were obtained for the powdered marble dust content of 40 vol.% and firing temperature 900C: bulk density of 1.20 g/cm3, compressive strength 9.2 MPa, thermal conductivity 0.32 W/m.K, and water absorption 22.5%. 2018 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
